Steiff Mohair

Steiff are probably the best known creator of bears and animals in the world. Their manufacturing quality sets the industry standard.

Margarete Steiff was a seamstress who began her teddy-bear career by making animal-shaped pin cushions, which is where the elephant logo still used today comes from. Her nephew, Richard, was an engineering student who sketched the bears at the local zoo and came up with the design for bears with jointed limbs, which they launched in 1902. When they became popular in the US, they were nicknamed the "Teddy bear" after president Theodore Roosevelt!

The mohair bears below are therefore at the peak of the industry, and can be identified by their white ear tags with blue writing. Limited edition bears can be found on their own separate page.
