The Old Gold Cheeky Bear is once loved by Merrythought. He has rich, antique gold mohair fur, with big brown eyes and a black hand stitched nose. The Merrythought logo has been sewn onto his paw pad.
The Cheeky Bear was first introduced in 1957. The bear was originally designed in 1955 by Merrythought’s acclaimed designer, Jean Barber, who gave it the working name "Teddy T". According to company history, when the new prototype was presented to Queen Elizabeth II at the British Industries Fair, Her Majesty allegedly exclaimed, "What a cheeky little bear!" The company immediately changed the name, and it debuted in the 1957 as the Cheeky Bear.
